Our social mission

Understanding your rights should not depend on your education, income or the language you speak. We want to help more people prepare and find appropriate help by providing understandable explanations about rental law.

Text version

Why is this mission necessary?

A rent increase, maintenance problem or notice about the end of the lease directly affects the security of a home. Those who encounter such a situation for the first time often have to understand unfamiliar words, formal letters and divergent interests. In the meantime, daily life and other worries continue as usual.

We believe that access to justice starts with access to understandable information. Our social goal is to reduce the information gap. The platform should help people recognize which questions are important, which documents they can organize and when personal advice remains necessary. Legal knowledge is not a prerequisite to start here.

The website cannot review a personal file or determine the outcome of a dispute. We do want to offer a useful starting point to enter into a conversation with an expert with more clarity.

Who are we there for?

We focus on tenants, landlords, roommates and people who help others with housing questions. Someone who looks up information for a loved one or helps to understand a letter must also be able to find a recognizable entry point.

Special attention is paid to barriers such as little money, difficulty reading, limited knowledge of Dutch, digital uncertainty and tension. That is why we work on question-oriented explanations, clear steps and different forms of information. Our language choice refers to actually available editions; a translation is not a guarantee of independent language or legal control.

Comprehensible information about tenancy law

We start with questions that match a visitor's situation: What agreements are included in my contract? What has already been reported? What questions do I ask about maintenance, rental price or termination? A legal term gains meaning when it becomes clear why that term matters and which facts can make a difference.

You can orient yourself with the knowledge base and tools. Consider bringing together the rental contract, correspondence and an overview of the problem. These are examples of preparation, not personal advice to take a specific legal action.

Plain language should not hide important exceptions. A calculation or checklist provides guidance within the stated assumptions. For decisions with major consequences, your own facts, documents and current rules remain decisive. You can report an unclear passage via our Editorial policies and corrections.

The road to appropriate help

Looking up information and actually receiving legal assistance are different steps. We want to help visitors recognize when they reach the limit of general explanation. On the page about legal assistance with rental law you can read about a possible next step.

A free callback request does not mean that the handling of a case is free. Discuss in advance who you will help, what services are offered, what costs apply and what agreements will be made. Any subsidized legal assistance has its own conditions and may entail a personal contribution.

We do not monitor legal deadlines. If the deadline is running, do not wait for a general response from the editors. Use your own documents to assess which action is necessary and who is responsible for it.

Care and verifiability

A reliable explanation must be verifiable. We want to make it clear which sources support a text, what role the editors play and whether a content version has been separately legally assessed. A professional registration, source link or technical review is not in itself a legal endorsement of an article.

We also use AI and automation to support development, explanations and translations. The responsibility for publication remains with people. On AI usage and translations we explain the limitations. We do not claim that all content has been independently reviewed by an attorney or native speaker.

Questions and errors are valuable signals. Our Report complaints and Contact Jurismedia show where you can go. A report does not automatically lead to a change, but it should be carefully investigated.

Respect for people and confidential information

A legal problem does not tell the whole story of a person. We want to offer explanations without condemning people or unnecessarily aggravating a conflict. In tenancy law, the interests of several parties involved can play a role at the same time. General information is not a judgment about who is right in a specific situation.

A question can contain information from rental contracts, financial data and roommate data. Do not share such documents unsolicited via general forms or e-mail. Limit your first message to what is necessary to understand your question and make unnecessary personal data unreadable.

Read how we handle Privacy Statement, Accessibility and Report security and vulnerabilities. We also make a distinction between our efforts and what has been demonstrated by independent research.

The Code Sociale Ondernemingen as a guideline

We work with the guidelines of the Code Sociale Ondernemingen as a guideline for our social development. It's about mission, measurement, stakeholder engagement, financial policy and transparency.

This choice does not mean that we already fully meet all requirements. Van der Spoel Development is a sole proprietorship and has no articles of association. We therefore do not claim any statutory assurance of the mission, external certification or inclusion in the Register Sociale Ondernemingen.

On Transparency and accountability we describe per principle what is available and what further substantiation is required. A policy intention is not a completed measure and a personal assessment is not an independent test.

How do we make our choices transparent?

Huurrecht in Nederland is part of the ten legal websites under the trade name jurismedia.nl of Van der Spoel Development. The business form is a sole proprietorship. Chamber of Commerce number: 89615395. You can reach us via redactie@jurismedia.nl.

Our legal websites earn exclusively from the rental of advertising space, including white label agreements. Paid visibility should be recognizable as an advertisement and should not suggest independent legal approval. The company behind the platform and the provider of a separate service each have their own role.

Read our Advertising and white label and the explanation of Transparency and accountability. We do not publish a reinvestment percentage, remuneration standard or profit limitation without recorded agreements and associated substantiation.

What do we want to achieve and measure?

We want visitors to understand more, to be able to prepare their questions more specifically and to know better where to find help. Scope and usage can help describe what we offer; they do not yet prove an improvement in access to justice.

A click on a callback button does not prove that someone has received advice. A greater number of translations does not prove that every translation is understandable. That is why we also want to investigate what people get from the explanation, where they get stuck and what improvement they notice.

Social results and improvements contains our measurement framework. No annual impact report with baseline measurement and substantiated results has yet been published here. Future accountability should also include limitations, setbacks and improvement actions.

Building further together

Visitors, relatives and professionals can help by reporting an unclear explanation, error or practical threshold. You do not have to write a legal argument for this. Tell us which page you used, what you wanted to understand and what you missed.

You can email redactie@jurismedia.nl. Professionals can find information about the existing working method and contributions via our editorial information. We want to use feedback to improve; Receiving feedback is not yet proof of structural influence on the price.
