Checking a tenancy agreement: what should you ask about? General information.

A model agreement may look familiar but still needs checking. Identify the home or room and any garden, storage or facilities included. Check the contracting party and whether the person handling communications acts on that party's behalf.

Compare signing, commencement and any end date. Ask which tenancy arrangement applies. Since the first of July two thousand and twenty-four, indefinite tenancy is the general rule, with specific exceptions and special forms. The word temporary alone is not a complete legal explanation.

Ask what you pay for the accommodation itself and which additional costs apply. Check agreed services and deposit information. One monthly total does not explain the payment's components. Keep the advertisement and written promises about price and facilities.

Include general conditions, the property description and any inventory. Write down questions and ask for clear written answers. Verbal reassurance does not automatically clarify an unclear clause. Watch for later documents apparently replacing existing agreements too.

List unclear clauses and the consequences you want explained. Have significant doubts about duration, price or waiving rights assessed in time. This video does not approve your agreement. The detailed guide helps you prepare the relevant documents and questions.
